Wow, what a week, what a term

Highlights of this week included finding out about Diwali, listening to and acting out the story of Rama and Sita, making clay diva lamps, learning new songs and creating our own Rangoli patterns. Many children thoroughly enjoyed reading the story ‘Pumpkin Soup’, looking at a range of vegetables, writing shopping lists and making their own vegetable soup where they helped to peel, chop, cook and eat the soup. We ended the week with hot chocolate and a biscuit on the decking which helped to warm everyone up on a very wet, cold and windy day.

Phonics

This week’s phonics focus has been around oral blending and segmenting. The children have been listening to adults modelling oral blending. For example, when giving children instructions or asking a question you can segment the last word into separate sounds and then immediately blend the sounds together to say the word (e.g. ‘it’s time to get your c-oa-t, coat’ or ‘can you do your z-i-p, zip’.

Information

  • We want to continue to share “Wow” moments that take place at home as well as at school, so children are always welcome to bring a photo to tell us about, a picture they’ve drawn or share some news.
  • Please remember that term begins on Tuesday 5th
  • There is a Forest school meeting on Friday 8th November at the beginning of the morning (8.50) and afternoon session (12.30), so you are able to drop your child off in the classroom and them come down to the rainbow room to discuss how your child will be experiencing Forest School this year. If you cannot attend, please let us know and we will do our best to schedule another time to speak to you.

We hope you all have a wonderful half term and we look forward to welcoming you back next term.

Best Wishes
