Nursery School Newsletter 10

Dear Parents

This week’s Nursery School highlights:

  • Snack/Cooking – This week the children have been busy making autumn kebabs with Issy, they have discussed the autumn season and linked the colours of the fruit to one of our poetry baskets poems ‘Leaves are falling’. Today we had an extra cooking session where some of the children made banana bread. Here is the recipe if you would like to make it with your child.
  • Outside – Jenny has been supporting and encouraging the children to access and use games apparatus to develop their gross motor skills. The children have focused on throwing, catching, rolling, using bats and climbing structures such as the rope bridge, platforms and slides etc.
  • Helicopter Stories – We have been encouraging the children to tell us their very own story. Then at the end of the day we have been reading out the stories and the children have enjoyed acting them out.
  • Inside – The children have helped me to create a hospital, this has instigated lots of communication, discussion and questions around doctors, nurses, and equipment. The children have been busy filling out prescription forms and ID badges.
  • Forest School – Today the children have connected as a group by taking it in turns to discuss their favourite woodland animals and why this is. They have actively collected materials for building shelters for hibernating animals and took notice of and celebrated their friends’ shelters. They have re-visited fire safety and cooked popcorn on the fire learning a new poem ‘Popcorn’
    Popcorn, popcorn, sizzling in the pan.
    Shake it up, shake it up, bam, bam, bam.
    Popcorn, popcorn, now it’s     getting hot.
    Shake it up, shake it up, pop, pop, pop.
    The children had a lovely time being part of the forest school community with Lexy and Jenny today.

Our core book – How things work – At the beginning of the week the children enjoyed sharing this information book at group time where they discovered how all sorts of amazing things work, from fire engines and submarines to dishwashers and vacuum cleaners. A great introduction to engineering. The book also has many lift the flaps which was of course is very exciting.

Phonics – We have been focusing on the sound ‘n’ this week, the children have learnt the action where they pretend to be a plane with their arms out like wings and say nnnnnnnnnn. As a whole group we then looked at some words/thought of some words that begin with the ‘n’ sound such as net, nut, noodles, nest, neck, night, Nola, noise, no etc. We also recapped on all the sounds we have learnt so far, here is a link the songs we do at nursery. We have continued working on and emphasising rhyming words in books, songs, and discussions.

Maths – This week’s focus has been on measure where the children have been comparing amounts and continuous quantities in group times and within play. We will continue with this focus next week.

Our poem this week has been:

Falling Apples

Here is the tree with its leaves so green.

Here are the apples that hang between.

When the wind blows, the apples will fall.

And this is the basket to catch them all.

To help with clear communication here are a few reminders (helpful information):

  • Friends of the ACE Centre meeting, Monday 21st of November – You are invited to a ‘Friends of the ACE Centre’ meeting at 9am in the Rainbow Room. If you are interested in finding out about becoming part of the ‘Friends’, please do pop along after dropping off for a hot drink and chat. If you cannot make it but would like to learn more, please do let me know. We are keen to get a group of parents together so we can work together to support the ACE Centre moving forwards.
  • Please can you send in/e-mail a family photo if you have not done so already. Please do include any pet photos too. We aim to introduce them around the setting next week to link home and prompt communication and language by connecting to family.
  • Xmas 4 schools project – I can see some of you have placed orders on the online portal, you can place orders up until this Sunday (20th of November). When the deadline is reached, your orders will be automatically processed through the system and put into production. Can you please let others know that may not have read the newsletter as I would hate for anyone to miss out on ordering their child’s artwork if they would like to. Let me know if you have not had an email with a link to the online portal.
  • Spare clothes plea – If by any chance anyone has any spare children’s clothes (especially boy’s trousers) aged 3-4 or 4-5 we could really do with some to add to our collection. Thank you.
  • Nursery School spaces available – we currently have spaces available in our nursery school, please spread the word to family and friends if they are looking for a nursery school place for their child. For more information or to book a visit they can contact the office on office@cnacecentre.co.uk or alternatively pop into reception.
  • Grapes – Please can we ask that you do not send whole grapes in your child’s lunchbox. We ask this as doctors warn that food is responsible for over half of all fatal choking accidents, with grapes the third most common cause of death in food-related incidents.
