Nursery School Newsletter 28

Hi All

Welcome back to term 6, our last term of the academic year. This is always a busy term with lots going on especially with lots of transition visits happening for our older children who will be leaving us in the Summer 🥹 On that note we were sad to say goodbye to Lyle and his family on Friday, we will miss you all but wish you well in your move and hope to see you around sometime. Please do keep in touch.

 

On Wednesday we had Lily in from Zoo Lab, she brought with her a giant African land snail, a giant African millipede, a Chilian rose tarantula, a leopard gecko and a corn snake. The children learnt some interesting facts about each animal and were able to touch and hold them if they wanted to (apart from the tarantula). This week’s Nursery School highlights:

Forest School – (Groups A & B) – Last week the children had the opportunity to explore clay up in forest school and were encouraged to make their own nature tile. The children used their imagination to create all kinds of master pieces, including a ‘narwhal’. They also had fun making mud paint, pies and of course looking for creepy crawlies hiding in our forest school area. We ended the session with a drink and a biscuit and discussed what the children had enjoyed doing at forest school. It is lovely seeing them come together and listen to each other and connect as group.

 

Maths – We have had fun making patterns in a range of ways, from making physical patterns with our bodies i.e. jump / clap / jump / clap to making AB / ABC patterns using natural objects such as shells, stones, pinecones and sticks. As each pattern was being made / modelled we said the name of the objects being used i.e. big shell / little shell / big shell / little shell to help reinforce understanding of what a repeating pattern is. This was also a good opportunity to encourage the children to count how many objects they had in their pattern. We will continue to explore pattern next week.

Phonics – Lots of oral blending and segmenting going on this week, we have been sounding out lots of CVC words for the children to hear and recognise.

This week’s poem – Pitter Patter

Pitter patter falls the rain,

On the roof and windowpane.

Softly, softly it comes down,

Makes a stream that runs around.

Flowers lift their heads and say,

“A nice cool drink for us today.”

 

Reminders / Information

• Please keep an eye out for any coffee mornings, parents meetings and transition sessions at your child’s new school, these are always beneficial to attend, the beginning of a new chapter and a chance to ask questions and find out about the school. The primary schools always put a lot of time and effort into making these a positive experience for you and your child. Please do let us know if your child is going to be absent due to any transitions and what time they will be in or need to be collected from school, we do not know all of the schools dates for these sessions so if you could let us know that would be great.
• Termly voluntary donations of £10 would be very much appreciated, if you could hand them into the office that would be great or if you would prefer to pay online please do get in touch with Alison in the office who will give you the bank details.
